Let’s check in on your Instagram today! We’re going to walk through all the different parts that make up your profile’s anatomy. Consider this a quick Instagram audit to see how your profile is looking and to help you pinpoint what could use a tune up. Here we go!
1. Profile Pic
Ok, starting right at the top… Your profile picture! It’s the first visual that someone will have of you and your brand, so you want to pick something that makes sense! Are you the face of your business?? You want your profile picture to be of your FACE! Your full face – and not too far away that people aren’t sure what they’re looking at. You want it to feel professional, but also inviting! If you aren’t the face of your brand, then making your logo the profile picture could be a better way to go! Or even a stunning photo of your work if you sell a physical product. Whatever it is, make sure it makes sense for your brand.
2. Your Instagram Handle
Up next, your handle! Ok I have to tell you my biggest pet peeve with this… I don’t like it when I don’t know someone’s name and I only know them by a complicated handle. Try to simplify! You want to be easily searchable and not have a million underscores in your handle. Also, if your profile is not all about you and your handle is your business name, put your personal name in your bio! People feel more connected to people and love knowing a bit of who is working behind the scenes of a business! This builds, know, like, and trust! So make sure your name is on your profile one way or another!
3. Optimize Your Instagram Bio
Your bio! Your bio is your wolf howl! Calling to your people! I could go on and on about this, so good thing I have an entire blog post dedicated to optimizing your Instagram bio! Check it out here. But the short and sweet of it all is… Your bio should immediately let people know if they are your people. It should be abundantly clear who you are calling to and what you are helping them with.
4. Link in Bio
You only get ONE link in your bio! Make it count. Use it to share a freebie that is jam-packed with value, direct people to sign up for your email or text list, send them to your blog, OR set up a Linktree where you can share all those things and more! When someone clicks on your link, it indicates that they are genuinely interested in what you offer, even if they are not ready to buy yet. Now is the time to nurture the relationship!
5. Story Highlights
Highlight bubbles! Ok, I absolutely LOVE highlight bubbles because your most important stories can live there forever after they expire! This is the perfect spot for showcasing to your ideal customers what you’re all about. Make sure they are packed with value to sell yourself! Bubble one should be client reviews and testimonials. Bubble two, about you, personal connection. Bubble three should give your clients a quick win, whether that’s a quick laugh or an actionable tip or some motivation. Highlight bubbles are where people go to really dig in to see if they want to make a purchase.
Whew! That is a lot! And that’s only the top half of your profile! There is so much more in regards to the anatomy of your Instagram. We’ll get to all the ins and outs of captions, posts, video content, and more soon! But giving all these areas a check up is a great place to start as you continue to refine and optimize your Instagram. What is looking great and what do you want to focus on improving??
Love,
Suzy
