What is an Optimized Instagram Bio?
What is an optimized bio? It’s one that converts eyeballs into customers! Your Instagram bio is the first thing a potential customer or follower will read when they land on your profile. So, you have to take the time to craft what you want it to say, how you want it to read, and what you want your people to know! It is someone’s first impression of you and you want it to call to them so that they stick around.
My Instagram bio is pretty simple BUT I worked on it for hours one weekend. Every.word.matters. You have limited space (150 characters to be exact!) and you want each word to drive home a point! I find myself still changing it and tweaking it all the time – it’s a constant project because chances are you as a human and your business are constantly changing and growing!
Your IG Bio Isn’t About You
Think about it this way, your Instagram bio is your wolf howl, and wolves call to wolves. The most common mistake that people make is when they make their bio all about THEM. But it actually isn’t about you! It should be about the wolves that you’re calling to. Yes it has to have injections of your personality in there! But your bio should immediately let people know if they are your people. It should be abundantly clear who you are calling to and what you are helping them with.
How to Optimize Your Instagram Bio
Ok, let’s walk through a few things to think about as you optimize your bio! This should get your brain going to really think about who you help.
- First… Who are you talking to? These are your wolves, your community! Are they moms? Teens? Married couples? Dog lovers? Someone always looking for the best deals? Take 5 seconds and write them down. This will help guide how you speak to them!
- Next, I want you to work through “I help _____” statements. How do you help ______? For example it could be… “I help moms gain confidence through organization hacks.” Knowing exactly who you are speaking to and what you help them with will be what your bio is alllll about.
- Finally, what language do you speak? Are you sarcastic? Religious? Do you speak to the heart or do you lean more towards educating? This is how you inject your personality into your bio! Make sure your bio lets people know a little bit about what they’ll be getting on your page through the words you choose.
- Bonus: Do you have any accolades that provide large social proof? Example… Were you featured in a magazine for your cake designs? Have you appeared on any television shows for your work? Any major awards? If you do, get those in your bio! Social proof is always an incredible tool to build trust.
And there you go! With some thought and work you will be on your way to optimizing your Instagram bio. The clearer you can call to your people with your bio, the better you’re going to be at converting them to customers! Because that’s the goal right? You’re building a community online AND a business!
