Does anyone resonate with feeling stuck in a box? Trapped in the idea of what you think you need to do, or who you need to be? My guess is, either you have felt that before or you’re feeling it right now. It happens to all of us.
At some point in life, each of us was given a box. It’s not something we were necessarily taught, but we caught. And sometimes that box feels more like a Russian doll of boxes… one after another, after another, after another that we need to break out of.
I grew up in a tiny town where it just wasn’t a thing for women to work unless they absolutely had to, and it was typically only in roles that served – like nursing (I was an oncology nurse by the way and absolutely LOVED it!) But ever since I was a kid I was kind of just like “shoot,” because a longing for entrepreneurship was in my soul. As much as I had that longing, I was still stuck in a box where I thought I could only be a mom, a wife, or serve. Mom, wife, serve, mom, wife, serve, mom, wife, serve… that was the story I had been told, but as I lived it out, I really wasn’t deeply fulfilled by it. So that became the first box that I had to break out of.
Breaking out of that box didn’t happen all at once. I would dabble in new things, like photography, and I would absolutely love it, but I would still retreat back into my box because it felt safer. Mom, wife, serve. With time, I continued to fight against that box and eventually I actually got semi decent at photography! I would whack my way out of that box one late night of editing at a time.
What completely changed the game for me was one pivotal moment. I was at a workshop and we all were writing down a goal. At the time, the biggest freaking goal for me was I wanted to be paid $350 for a family photography session. I remember writing it down and just being like “wow that’s big but i think I can do it.” By the end of my photography journey that goal was met and multiplied several times over. Something changed for me in that moment of writing down what I wanted to happen and set something in motion. In set in motion the breakdown of the box.
I want you to do this. Write down what you actually want. Physically write it down. Put it into the universe. It sets your dream into motion. It starts the process of you breaking out of your box. Call your shots. Put something that’s actually kind of unreachable down on paper. The universe will conspire to give it to you. Don’t be afraid to break out of whatever your box is and go after what you want.
This is just my story. We each have different boxes to break out of and different dreams in our souls. Your’s might be the exact opposite of mine! How cool is that?! But the principles here still apply.
What could happen if YOU broke out of your box?
Love, love, love,
Suzy
